Itoje returns for England, Benhard blow

Captain Maro Itoje is back in the England squad, with coach Steve Borthwick naming 36 players for a three-day training camp ahead of the Nations Championship.

The lock was given some time off by Borthwick and missed the July leg of the new tournament.

Loosehead prop Fin Baxter and centre Joe Marchant also return, as do Will Stuart, Ben Curry, Emmanuel Iyogun, Tom Pearson and Kepueli Tuipulotu.

Ben Spencer is among those left out, along with Ollie Lawrence, Ted Hill, Vilikesa Sela and Charlie Ewels. George Kloska and Theo Dan, who both appeared in July, are also missing.

Seb Atkinson, Immanuel Feyi-Waboso and Guy Pepper are in injury rehab, while Chandler Cunningham-South and Benhard Janse van Rensburg are not considered due to injury. The latter has not played since taking a head knock while playing for the Bristol Bears on 3 October.

The squad assembled on Sunday and will train at England’s Performance Centre at Pennyhill Park until Tuesday.

England begin their campaign against the Wallabies at Twickenham on 8 November, followed by matches against Japan and the All Blacks.
