Elrigh Louw of Isuzu Southern Kings has been banned for one week as a result of a Citing Complaint made against him for an incident that occurred on Saturday, February 1 in Toyota Stadium, Bloemfontein.
The Player faced a Disciplinary Committee on Monday, February 10 to consider the Citing Complaint. The Committee comprised of Adv Lihle Sidaki (Chair), Adv Sibonile Khoza and Adv Maria Mokhoaetsi (All South Africa).
The incident occurred in the 66th minute of the Guinness PRO14 Round 9 fixture. The Citing Commissioner deemed the player to have committed an act of foul play against an opponent Daniel Maartens (no 20) of Toyota Cheetahs.
The Player had been sited for Law 9.13 – A player must not tackle an opponent early, late or dangerously. Dangerous tackling includes, but is not limited to, tackling or attempting to tackle an opponent above the line of the shoulders even if the tackle starts below the line of the shoulders.
The Committee concluded that an act of foul play had occurred and that the Player’s actions warranted a low-end entry point. Due the Player’s clean disciplinary record and conduct throughout the hearing, mitigation of 50% was applied and the Player was banned for a period of one week.
The Player is free to play from midnight on Sunday, February 16 2020.
The Player was reminded of his right to appeal.
